Professor Jason Powell is an internationally recognised academic leader with extensive executive experience across Russell Group, post-92 universities and the independent education sector. Over his distinguished career, he has served as President, Provost, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Executive Dean, and held five full Professorial appointments at leading institutions.
As Provost of Unibridge Group and UKMC, Professor Powell provides strategic leadership and direction for all academic and educational functions. His portfolio spans academic standards, curriculum development, quality assurance, pedagogy, teaching and learning, student experience, regulatory compliance, staff development, business development, global engagement and strategic planning. A values-driven leader, he is known for his integrity and unwavering commitment to excellence in education.
Professor Powell has an outstanding record of academic distinction, with several hundred publications including nearly 100 academic books. He has led 52 research and knowledge exchange projects worth £6.1 million, and his work is globally recognised, ranking him #1 for Health and Social Care and Age citations by peers on Google Scholar, and among the top 10 sociologists worldwide by AD Scientific Index.
His achievements have earned him numerous awards and fellowships, including Winner of the 2022 Best Researcher of the Year Award, the 2023 Excellence Service Award (INSO), and the Emerald Literati Best Article Award. He is one of only seven elected Companions of the Society of Bereavement Practitioners and has received two Honorary Doctorates in recognition of his contributions to understanding global ageing.
Internationally, Professor Powell holds several honorary appointments, including Adjunct Professor at McMaster University and Gandaki University, Distinguished Professor at CUICI, Distinguished Honorary Professor at MSU, and Honorary Fellow at the University of Liverpool. He has previously been Honorary Director at Tsinghua University, Visiting Research Scholar at Harvard University and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Oxford.
